Makibaka and the Makabayan dancers

Two firsts in our performance of “Makibaka” at the second National Convention of Makabayan. This was our (me, Pol and Tony) first time to perform Makibaka with Ka Tony on drums and not on guitar. Ka Tony by the way played the lead guitar in the recorded version of Makibaka, and in most of the song’s live performance. This was also the first time that a live performance of Makibaka was accompanied by a fiery flag-bearing dance routine courtesy of the Makabayan dance troupe.

This was held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines gymnasium last September 7, 2012. Video is a combination of footage taken by Marion and Lolo Mon.

Song “Desap” launched at campaign vs impunity

Desap
, a song I wrote and performed, was launched at the National Union of People’s Lawyers anti-impunity campaign event. Pol Torrente of Plagpul played bass in this electronica performance of Desap and Makibaka. A 30-sec excerpt of “Desap” is the official radio plug of the anti-impunity campaign. Thanks to Marion and Loujaye for the videos!

Get to (Cultural) Work: 350 and Art (via Mga Kathang Katotohanan)

Music. There is no better way to pull the climate-active heartstrings than with environmental music and lyrics. Culturally localized pieces especially endear our message to the sectors. Below is a performance by Karl Ramirez, the founding chair of 350 Philippines lead organizer Agham Youth (AY), and Roselle Pineda of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines, in the Rhythm and Rhymes of the Environment cultural night that was organized as part of AY’s work party activities. It is a reggae version of the Ilocano environmental song Gatan by DKK. Read More
