For Facebook users who still haven’t joined the cause please click here to do so. As of 12:29 AM, April 28, the Facebook campaign against the “butcher-general” Jovito Palparan has already registered 1,493 members. In parallel with the street protests, the online campaign was launched immediately after the Supreme Court ruling that made Palparan a member of the House of Representatives.
Bayan secretary general Renato M. Reyes, Jr, said that the Facebook cause “was created to raise awareness of Gen. Jovito Palparan and the various human rights abuses he has been involved in. It is also a political statement against what many believe is a gross injustice, that a person like Palparan is able to get a seat in Congress even if he doesn’t represent any marginalized sector and despite his involvement in human rights abuses.”
As a short recap of Gen. Jovito Palparan’s record, he has been found liable for human rights abuses by the Melo Commission, and involved by the Court of Appeals in the abduction and torture of the Manalo brothers and 2 UP students.
Despite the facts, the government has not done anything to make Palparan accountable.
