“Forging Empowered Communities” is a video I had the opportunity of helping the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC) with last February 2009. CDRC is a non-government organization that pioneered and continues to promote community-based disaster management in the Philippines.
The documentary is about the lessons the communities and organizations learned from CDRC’s project “Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation for Typhoon-Prone Philippine Regions” in partnership with the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and the German Federal Foreign Office.
Six organizations from CDRC’s network participated in providing materials for the documentary: the Southern Tagalog People’s Response Center (STPRC), Tarabang Para sa Bicol, Inc. (TABI), Leyte Center for Development, Inc. (LCDE), Bread for Emergency Assistance and Development (BREAD), Center for Relief and Rehabilitation Services – Cagayan Valley (CRRS-CV) and the Alay Bayan, Inc. (ABI).
