Pursue Justice for Melissa, Juanito and John

From Joel P. Garduce’s notes.

Pursue justice for Melissa Roxas, Juanity Carabeo, and John Edward Handoc through to the end!

The unprecedented surfacing of abducted activists MELISSA ROXAS and JUANITO CARABEO, who were kidnapped by likely state security forces along with still-missing JOHN EDWARD HANDOC (who was misreported earlier to have been surfaced already) was a clear democratic victory for freedom-loving Filipinos–and their mass movement–who dared come together in various ways (including raising a collective hue and cry right here in Facebook) to condemn the terrorist acts against the three.

But the fight clearly doesn’t stop there. Along with the continued call to surface JOHN EDWARD HANDOC, there is a strong chance for lovers of justice everywhere to notch more important gains against U.S.-directed Philippine state terrorism.

This pregnant possibility was shown when kidnapped Filipino-American MELISSA ROXAS came out and issued a stirring affidavit detailing her harrowing experience since that fateful afternoon of May 19. Along with this, she issued a petition for the writ of amparo as well as for the writ of habeas data before the Philippine Supreme Court.

All these augur well for the fight against the masterminds and implementers of the deceitfully-labeled Oplan Bantay Laya 2, the so-called counter-insurgency program hatched by the Arroyo regime that was in reality a program for the extermination and neutralization of the most consistent and most determined oppositors to the regime’s monumental corruption, blatant puppetry to anti-Filipino interests, and state terrorism.

This note is aimed at serving as one accessible place for everyone with access to Facebook who are interested in pursuing this explosive case to check out vital documents that have come out so far with regard to this case.

Kindly join this cause and invite many more to it as well as part of continuing efforts to shine bristling sunlight on this dark episode.

These abductions have now gained attention not only in the Philippines, but in the United States and elsewhere around the globe. As the American people are now steadily exposed to the shattering revelations of torture by U.S. soldiers and their Iraqi partners in the dungeon prisons of Iraq, so should Melissa Roxas’ revelations of torture in the hands of state security forces of a close ally of the United States awaken them to the reality that the U.S. government is actively condoning terrorist practices around the world.

We enjoin other journalists in and beyond the Philippines and the United States–specially those coming from independent media entities as well as those deemed independent journalists who are still with Big Media–to take up this issue and force both the Arroyo and Obama governments to heed the just clamor for the prompt resolution of these cases in favor of justice, freedom and democracy.
