Forging Empowered Communities

“Forging Empowered Communities” is a video I had the opportunity of helping the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC) with last February 2009. CDRC is a non-government organization that pioneered and continues to promote community-based disaster management in the Philippines. Continue reading

Found Cubao Expo on Pelicola

Cubao Expo (Photo from Cubao Expos Multiply site)

It was only after I browsed Pelicola and watched this teaser clip that I got curious about Cubao Expo. Cubao X, as some would refer to it, is the former Marikina Shoe Expo located between the Araneta Bus Terminal and Puregold along Gen. Romulo St. in Araneta Center, Cubao.

Not exactly a mall or a commercial arcade, Cubao Expo serves as a haven for artists, intellectuals, thrift shoppers, activists, and for Filipino and alternative culture. (Watch the Pelicola Insider documentary here.)

Lola Teying

Lola TeyingA few months after Lola Teying’s death six years ago, I made a documentary about Lola’s life story superimposed in the colorful history of Ligao City and of the Bicol Region. On easter sunday, my father ressurected the video by posting it in his YouTube account and broadcasting to his brods, comrades, friends, and our relatives.

Mon Ramirez: Resurrecting a video by Karl on Easter Sunday – I recalled this video and resurrected it 6 years after it was made by my son Karl when I learned this morning about the passing away of my Speech I professor in 1961, Dr. Alejandro Casambre, who is the father of an associate in the NGO, AGHAM… – I have just posted the video in 3 parts to the You Tube at this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9bIGPeg0Ro

I’ve already compiled the 3 video parts into a single playlist so you can now click here to watch the documentary.

Prometheus Bound, bloopers edition

Prometheus Bound (click here for the documentary), a documentary about the state of science and technology in the Philippines, was produced by Agham (Advocates of Science and Technology for the People) and the Science for Society Program of the College of Science, University of the Philippines Diliman. Overhauling the original concept, it was jointly written and directed by me, Natalie Pulvinar, and Prof. Gani Tapang. Weng Castillo was our very helpful production assistant.

This by the way, is the bloopers version. Hehe!
